House & Grounds

The village of Costozza lies at the foot of the Berici Hills south of Vicenza on the road called Riviera Berica (SP 247) , a few minutes from the new exit “Longare” on the motorway Valdastico (A31).
The da Schio villas are located among the trees of a large park including a formal Italian garden.
One of the villas is built in front of a large cave first described as a cellar in 1330 by the poet Fazio degli Uberti. Since the Roman domination and during the Middle Ages the village was called Custodia, after the caves, vast stone-quarries which supplied the lime stone used later by Palladio in many of his buildings in the Veneto. Also the sculptor Orazio Marinali  that invented the beautiful statues adorning the garden ,( 1643-1720), had his workshop in one of our villas built on the mouth of a cave frescoed by Dorigny.
Through the ages the ancient name of Custodia changed in Custoggia, Custoza and finally Costozza.
The caves have always been used to store food because of the cool , dry atmosphere and constant temperature. Today these quarries are used as a mushroom farm.

A large luxury apartment with the original furniture and modern comforts is on the main floor of the villa ready for guests interested in beauty and culture.

A flower show is held in the grounds on the third week end of May with stands all over the park and shops also inside the villa.
